severe arthritis

Posted in Group:

I have had two orthoscopic surgeries on both of my knees. The first surgeries was when I was 18 (right leg) and 19 (left leg). 20 years after that I needed surgery on them again for the same issue. I went to a different doctor for this set of surgeries. I do not remember hearing when I was 18 what caused the need for the surgery, just that my knee caps got off track and needed lateral release surgery to repair them. When I had the second set of surgeries a few years ago it still was not explained to me what caused the issues (same thing). This past year I have continued to have worsening pain, in my right knee especially, so I went to a different doctor. He showed me the MRI and explained to me the grooves in my knee are very shallow which is the reasoning behind the knee cap going off track easier than normal. He also showed me a lot of bone bruising has occurred in that knee due to no cartilage left in that knee. I have tried cortizone shots but they did nothing for me. Last month I did visco-supplementation shots to see if that will help any. My knee isn't hurting as often as it did before, but I still have very bad days where it hurts to move my knee at all. My knee is so bad that I have resorted to using a cane as extra support and I am only 41 years old! The doctor also gave me approval for a handicap tag/license. It is rough being this disabled at my age!! I have asked about knee replacement but they will not do it at my age, due to them having to be replaced in approximately 10 years. I would rather have a good 10 years and get it replaced than having this pain until they decide I am old enough for the surgery!!

Try to research about the acupuncture procedures and if that can help you to relieve the pain. Wishing you all the happiness. God bless you.

Last night I had a really bad time with the arthritis. After working an 8 hour day (in retail) I went out to dinner with friends. While out, when I stood up to use the restroom I had severe pain in my knee. It had me in tears! Once I got home I checked my knee and it was swollen to the size of a softball!! I was in such pain, I could not even sleep. I have come to realize I can not walk as much around work as I used to, otherwise I pay for it in pain! I had walked 9000 steps in 8 hours at work. I know the doctors say exercise and walking is good for you, but that is not the case for my knee! Thankfully today I am feeling much better, even though there is some pain still it is not nearly as bad as last night. Thanks for listening to me ramble.

This constant weather change has had me hurting pretty badly. Most days I am in minor/moderate pain, but at times the slightest movement of my knee has me in severe pain. I am baffled on how the smallest move can put me in so much pain.

I have arthritis in my legs as well but not as bad as you do. I was told by a doctor when i was 16. I dont remember what kind of arthritis it is though. I know how you feel cause it bugs me alot. There are some days that i try to go on walks just to get out of the house and exercise. there are days that i can go and walk down the street just perfectly. There are days that its all i can do is walk. Its Just really annoying.

Thank you for the support. It makes it hard to move when my knees do not want to work properly. It gets frustrating when the smallest movements send me into orbit sometimes. I'm just thankful the weather has been so decent here in MI otherwise I would barely be moving! *here's hoping I didn't just jinx myself* I wish with all the medical knowledge out there, there was something that could be done to relieve arthritis permanently. The doctors won't do knee replacement for me yet even though I have no cartilage left because they say I am too young. I have read they only last 10-15 years then need replaced. I would rather have the good 10-15 years than have to suffer until they decide I am eligible. Here's to hope!
