I just need to yell for a moment!

Posted in Group:

I don't talk about my medical challenges much and that is intentional. But tonight I'm going to let it out a little, or maybe ALOT!!!

I want to start by saying that I grew up believing everyone had pain every day of their lives and I must be a bigger baby than everyone else. Now, I know what's wrong and what's been wrong since I can remember even in kindergarten.

It hurts!!! It really REALLY hurts!!!! It hurts like childbirth sometimes... it REALLY does!! Sometimes I vomit from the pain. Always I hide the pain, as much as I can.... They know it though, my loved ones know, and they truly care, so I know that I am lucky.

I want TO SCREAM TONIGHT!!!!! IT HURTS!!!!!!!!!! It knocks the breath out of me, it robs me of sleep and peace and thought.... I can't think when the pain gets so bad... I can't remember things when the pain is so bad. I take a pain medication that should make me totally loopy, but it doesn't at all. It does take the edge off and I'm so grateful for that. Someone said, "those are addicting"... I said so is suicide if you have no break from the pain.... and THATS that truth!!!

My pain is somewhat more bearable tonight as I read posts here as well as knowing that my pain is so greatly increased due to a total of 5 hours today, doing housework!!! I am VERY glad about that!! Sometimes I hurt this bad for "no reason at all", meaning I haven't overdone anything... If you saw my x-rays, you would understand. Heck if you saw my left foot, you would understand... the disease is twisting my joints more aggressively now..... to try and wear a pair of shoes.... I just cringe at the thought of stuffing my bent, twisted feet and toes into shoes.... so painful.

Please, PLEASE listen if you have loved ones who have chronic pain!! Please tell them you don't hate them for being sick. Please tell them you will be there for them if they need you, but don't start talking to them like their chronic pain has caused brain injury and they need to be told what to do!!

And most of all, tell them that you love them no matter what because it's easy to feel unlovable when you deal with these challenges every single day.

There! I'm done yelling... thank you for letting me do that!!!

Love you all, Suzee

Hello Dahlia,

It must indeed feel horrible to be told by someone who is not suffering from pain that everything will be okay if you change the words you are telling yourself. Even though our mindset really helps there are times when the pain is so intolerable that acts of love and comfort go beyond the effects of well intended words. I do hope the best for you and Suzee through this difficult time of pain.

Suzee, I am so sorry that you are in so much pain. A friend of mine who is only 30 has had arthirits for 6 years now. When she has a flare up, she literally cannot move, and I have to do everything for her. Although I don't know the pain, I have seen it first hand, and it is heartbreaking!! Hang in there. I don't really have any suggestions, just wanted to send you a big hug. Love you x

Hi Suzee,

Have you read the book by Margaret Hills - curing Arthritis the drug free way? There is also another book of hers that has recipes in there too. Just a thought. But my friend stuck to the diet suggested in this book and it helped her so much. When she first got arthritis she was bedridden. she could do nothing for herself. She couldn't even sit up, dress herself, wash her hair... literally I had to do everything for her. When she had been on this diet for 3 months, she was a different person. Just a thought. Even now, when she goes off the diet for a few days she really feels the pain. I know that it may not work for everyone, and you may have already tried something like this, but I just wanted to try and help some way or another, because you helped me so much last week!!

Take care

Lace xx

dear suzee i really feel for you. i have family who has arthritis and it is really sad when i see them cry because they cant barely get up from where they were laying or sitting. i can only imagine the pain you must be going through as everyone else who suffers from it as well.i fear i may be on the start of it myself because my hands are alot weaker and in the winter time they hurt so bad i want to scream. i dont know if it is possible for me to be getting it as young as i am because i am only 24. i have had people tell me that it sounds like i have it or am getting it. i just figured maybe i have lost alot of strength because i dont use my hands like i used to. as far as the winter thing goes i dont know why my bones hurt in my hands real bad. i just know it does and it affects my sleeping. i have no idea what do you think? i hope you get to feeling better and i am wondering if maybe the dr can put you on something else for pain or maybe add something to the medication you are already using? im sorry for your pain and i hope it gets better.

lots of love.......Ashley

Thank you so much everyone for your thoughts and your suggestions!!! I have ordered the book you suggested Lace!! Yes Maria I would love if you would share the ways you cope with your pain!!

Hey Ashley, I'm so sorry for the pain in your hands!!! Is it just in your hands? Does is go up your arm at all, even in your shoulders? The doctors can now see that I've had RA all my life, but I must have been in a remissive state throughout most of my 20's, but that doesn't mean you can't have it!! Actually RA doesn't care how old you are!!! LOL It's not a "wear and tear" arthritis and actually the medical field is working on taking the word "arthritis" off the name of this disease!! SO because it's not an arthritis from years of use or over use, it can hit anyone who has the gene in them. IT's actually a blood disease and it's been having a grand ole time attacking my heart, lungs and kidneys!!!

The reason I ask about your hand pain, is because my Mom had pain like that in her hands and it was carpal tunnel!! I believe my sister has it too. Gosh I remember coming downstairs at night and seeing her there, sitting in the kitchen rocking back and forth due to the pain in her hands...

I had always had "Mystery" injuries... I used to wake up with a horribly swolen ankle or finger or knee etc... And I would always figure I MUST have done something to it?>???? LOL When I began having constant severe pain, it was my hands and fingers, but not all of the fingers at once. But my biggest pain was getting out of bed most everyday and being unable to walk because it literaly felt like I was walking on glass. I was taking 4 tylenol and 6 ibuprofen at a time, together, just to keep going because I had chronically ill daughter as well as 14 kids in my daycare... Finally one day I winced while I had my daughter at the doctor (with her millionth time with pnemonia) and my doc asked me what was that about... I slowly began to tell her.... she got very very serious and ordered blood tests immediately. She called it arthritis so I thought, "big deal arthritis, everyone gets it"... I was in denial for a bit but then she showed up at my house.... she told me how severe this was for me. If you have a rhuematoid factor in your blood of 25, you are considered positive.... my first 3 tests were 5,200, 6,000 and 9,300. I to this day, hold the world record!!! YAY!! Hey at least I won!!!hehehe Anyhow, for some reason, I have a very extreme relentless disease process. I will submit again to going to mayo again so they can "put me in a bubble" and have doctors from all over study me. They treat me really great so I can't complain. They put me up in very nice hotels, usually poolside handicap rooms and the people at the hotel take very good care of us. Last time I went it was 3 weeks, my doc says the next time they would prefer 6 weeks... yikes. They provide a van to take us around to whereever we want to go. They pay for meals and last time some nurses set us up to visit some museums and fun parks so that was awesome. I think about how I used to hate needles etc... now hell I can do most of it myself!! I've been giving myself injections for lots of years. I teach all of my children as well. They might as well get used to it because chances are they will all need them by 30 years old.

Speaking of them having the disease as well.... so many people want their daughters to wait to have children.... well, I've been truthful with my daughters in that if they want more than one child, they need to not wait too long. By 28 or so, it becomes very hard and even impossible as our bodies are just too sick. :0( SO, I have beautiful grandbabies and I'm the most blessed woman on the planet!!!

SO I guess I didn't need to write a novel here to you!!! Sorry Ash!!! I got going about some of that knowledge I have that I try to forget about!!! :0)

Seriously though, if you feel something is wrong, please tell your doc. RA is something that if caught there are meds that can help. What those TV commercials don't tell you though is that all those meds actually have about a 15% success rate for people with severe RA.... but the earlier the better they can do in slowing down the damage.

Sending my best hugs, Suzee

Hi Suzee,

I hope the book helps a little. There is a hot drink in there, made of cider vinegar and honey. It smells funny and doesn't taste the best, but make sure you drink that religiously. It will be so cleansing for your joints. It cleans the inside of my friends cups that have tea stains in them, imagine what it does to your insides. Steer clear of acidic foods too, they build up on the joints and cause pain. The recipes in the back of the book are actually quite nice and even I eat them when I go for dinner with her. I hope the pain has eased a little for you this week. Let me know what you think of the book.

Much love Suzee x
