Arthritis

Posted in Group:

I am 33 years old and have had arthritis for 11 years.I have never taken medication.I try to manage it with diet and excercise. Was wondering if there was anyone else who has had luck with diet and excercise with no meds?

I only know that it depends on what type of Arthritis, because I know someone who had Rhematoid and had to be on alot of meds all their life and still had pain and swelling. But that person lived 30 plus years after being diagnosed with this at 50 years of age so medication did help in this case.)

Hi Everyone!

I am also a member of binge eating - and I can definitely attest that if I could eat right and keep working out - I would feel MUCH better! Since I finished my last semester at school, during which I DID NOT eat right and did NOT have the energy to workout - my arthritis is back tenfold. I am 53, and retired military, and I feel so sorry for those of us who are very much young and have this disease.

Yes, it sure does hurt. And anyone who has it should really talk with their docs about getting on prescription meds. Over-the-counter drugs do not do a thing for me!

Last week I begged the doc for a narcotic pain-reliever, but unfortunately everything they wanted to give me makes me sick because of the opiate bases. So, now I changed from celexa (stopped working after two months) and how I am on another med - I'll share it later cuz I am on my way to bed!

Exercise is a must, and don't quit. I am really trying to eat right - but it's hard when you are a binge eater. I have other probs too, but I am so sick of discussing them - I sound like a hypochondriac I am sure!

Looking forward to learning more in this group - and thanks!

Hi lynnteri, I also suffer from chronic arthritis, and I've found that when I manage my emotions, my pain is managed as well. Pain is so much more than physical, and if you let the negative thoughts take over, there's no way you'll be able to manage it. There's some great ways to go about this at http://onlineceucredit.com/edu/social-work-ceus-pain. I've learned to redefine my self-worth, and stay positive despite the pain.

Hi.
I have had what I thought were arthritic aches and pains for several years. I am a tree surgeon and last year some friends invited me to go to Norway to help them out with their trees. During my stay my aching hips disappeared. Usualy when I am working at home after a hard days work I would need a couple of days to get over it. Whilst there I was working at least 10 hours a day yet I was not experiencing the same level of fatigue. I could not explain it. Recently I had a health scare and decided to only drink spring water. The aching in my hips went after a few days.

Whilst in Norway I asked if the water was chlorinated. The answer was yes. I had asked the wrong question. I should have asked if the water was flouridated. apparently Norway does not flouridate their water. I had thought flouride was something they just put in toothpast. I have read up about it and some of the symptoms of flouride exposure can mimic those of arthritus.

I would recomend you avoid flourides like the plague. Arthritic symptoms are only one of many adverse conditions that scientific researchers are warning about You can get flouride free tooth past, You also need to be aware that many fruit and vegetables are sprayed with flourides. I have opted for a distiled water system rather than bottled water

I also avoid bathing in tap water if possible as I understand that flourides are easily absorbed through the skin.
